Who we are and what this covers
Creative Cabinet (formerly Civic Power of Change) is the name under which Civic Power of Change Action Fund (“Creative Cabinet,” “we,” “us”) operates. We are a political committee registered with the Federal Election Commission, committee ID C00913772. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and what choices you have. It applies to creativecabinet.org and civicpowerofchange.com, our candidate map, our online donation pages, our volunteer, candidate and contact forms, our emails and text messages, and information you give us by email or in person.
Please read Section 4 before you contribute. Federal law requires us to publicly report information about certain contributors, and that obligation overrides the choices described elsewhere in this policy.
1. Information you give us
If you contribute: your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, employer and occupation, and whether you are retired or not employed. Contributions are processed by our donation platforms, and we never receive or store your full card number.
If you volunteer or join our talent network: your name, contact details, location and time zone, skills and disciplines, availability, languages, work samples, portfolio or LinkedIn links, a photo if you send one, and the causes you care about.
If you choose to share it: demographic information such as your pronouns, gender, racial or ethnic identity, whether you identify as LGBTQIA, and veteran status. This is always optional. We use it to understand who our community is and to match volunteers to work thoughtfully. It is visible only to a small number of administrators and is never shown to the campaigns we match you with. You can decline every one of these questions and still volunteer.
If you agree to receive texts: your mobile number and a record of when and how you agreed.
If you contact us: whatever you put in your message.
If you are a candidate or campaign we work with: contact and campaign details, the services we provided, your feedback, and, where you have asked us to do work on your behalf, account access we hold under a separate agreement.
2. Information we get from other sources
We may also receive information about you from people who introduce you to us, our correspondence with you, and public sources.
3. Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, we and the services we use collect standard technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site you came from.
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use our site. Google sets cookies and receives your IP address. You can opt out using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Our candidate map is hosted by Cloudflare and loads fonts from Google, which receives your IP address. Some of our forms are provided by Airtable, and some videos are hosted by Vimeo, which sets its own cookies when you play a video. We do not use advertising pixels, retargeting tags, or session-recording tools.
Our emails use standard tracking that tells us whether a message was opened and which links were clicked.
4. Contributions are public information
This is the most important section of this policy.
Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and employer of anyone whose contributions total more than $200 in a calendar year. We file that information with the Federal Election Commission on the schedule federal law sets, and the FEC publishes it on fec.gov, where it is publicly searchable.
What this means for you. If you give more than $200 in a year, your name, address, employer and occupation become part of the public record. We cannot remove them from a filed report, and we cannot honor a deletion request for information we are legally required to keep and report; committees must keep contribution records for three years after the report is filed. Third parties routinely copy and republish FEC data, so once a report is filed that information is outside our control.
Federal law prohibits contributions from certain sources, including foreign nationals and federal contractors, and prohibits giving in another person’s name. We may ask you to confirm your eligibility.
If you would prefer your information not be reported, the choice is to keep your total contributions at or below $200 in a calendar year, or not to contribute. There is no other mechanism.
5. How we use information
To process contributions, send receipts, and meet our FEC reporting and recordkeeping obligations. To match volunteers with candidates and campaigns, and to run and support that work. To send updates, newsletters and fundraising appeals you can unsubscribe from at any time, and texts if you have agreed to receive them. To respond to you. To understand what is working, such as how many volunteers we placed and which appeals landed. And to protect our organization and comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent or trade our donor or volunteer lists.
6. Who we share it with
The FEC and the public, as described in Section 4.
Service providers who work on our behalf, only as needed to run our operations. These include our donation platforms, our email, CRM, file-storage, form, workflow-automation and team-messaging tools, the AI tools we use to organize our own records, and our outside compliance firm, which prepares our FEC filings. They may use your information only to provide those services to us.
Candidates and campaigns, where you are a volunteer we are matching to their work, and only the information relevant to that placement. Demographic information is never shared with them.
The public, for candidates and campaigns we have served. We name the candidates and campaigns we have worked with on our website and candidate map, and with permission we may publish feedback or testimonials. If you would like your name taken down, contact us and we will remove it.
Text messaging. We do not sell or share your mobile number or text-message opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Nothing else in this section overrides that, except that a provider that delivers our texts receives what it needs to send them.
When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our organization, our team, or others. And if our committee merges, dissolves, or transfers its operations, information may transfer as part of that, subject to this policy.
7. How long we keep it
Contribution records are kept as long as federal law requires, currently at least three years from the filing of the report they appear in, and in practice longer, because our filings are permanent public records.
Volunteer, candidate and contact records are kept while the relationship is active and for a reasonable period afterward. You can ask us to remove you from our lists at any time.
8. Your choices
Email: unsubscribe from any message we send, or write to us. Texts: reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. Correct your information: tell us and we will fix it; if a correction affects a filed FEC report, we will work with our compliance firm to amend it. Access or delete: you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it, but we must decline deletion for anything we are legally required to keep and report, as described in Section 4. State rights: residents of California and certain other states may have additional rights over their personal information; contact us to exercise them.
9. Security
We limit access to personal information to people who need it, and we use reputable vendors for payment processing, data storage and email. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim ours is. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
10. Children
Our site and programs are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes
We will post any changes here and update the “Last updated” date.
